Mizuno 10km Run

Kriinnngggggggg……… 5.30am? Oh my God! I have a run today!!! It feels like as if I’ve just slept for 5 minutes. Once I switched off the alarm, Joey called. “Yes Joey, I’m awake. This time I really am. See you in 30minutes.” Basically I have two options:
a) get up from bed and get ready
b) continue my sleep
To be honest I would rather choose b, but somehow I dragged myself to the bathroom and get ready. Oh come on, nobody will notice if I’m not around. The only motivation I got is that I want to show off head to toe my brand new Nike gear.

We (yes, me and my friend – I dragged her along just to take my picture as this might be my first and last) arrived at Padang Merbok, at about 5 minutes to 7am. After a 2 km walk from the car park – (it is so far away) then I met Joey. Being a first timer for a run, I am a bit nervous and Joey as usual reassured me that it would be ok.

Ok, I can do this. No problem. Easy peasy. To my surprise, I saw Sashvin, Foong Ling and Gan. Wow, since when ProMark opened office in this area? After saying hello to ‘ProMark Pacers’ I did some warming up (later I’ve been told that I did it wrongly). Anyway, I did exercise a day before by shopping with Christina – (another PM from Spain) for more than 8 hours. And yes! If that can be considered as exercise. Hahaha…

To cut it short, we all ran together as ‘one big happy family’ and I looked around for Simon. Every ‘mat salleh’ passed by, I cried to Joey, “I saw Simon!’ which really p****d her off – I did it more than 5 times!

We started running up the hill, then down and up again, then down again. It went on and on. I was exhausted but Joey and Sashvin were such sweeties they kept on motivating me by saying “Hashella, our drink stop will be another 500m. Not far from here. Just imagine your 100plus”. Of course they were lying, as the exact distance is 3km! Anyway, I thank both of them for making me keep on running. In fact, I’ve been thinking to call a cab and go home!

Time passed by and it’s another 15minutes for qualified hours. I must get the medal. I want it. Actually I want to prove it to my family, especially my sister! She always laughed when I mentioned that I participated again this time. Sashvin from the starting point till the end, ran by my side. At one moment, it was about time for him to run for his qualified hours too so I told him off. He was reluctant to leave me until I started to scream at him, then he sped off.

After he was gone, I kept on running until I saw a signboard – 1 km. Hooray! Every people I passed by gave me encouragement even this one policeman. 5 minutes to go, I sped and don’t want to give up.

From far I saw my girlfriend busy taking my picture and Gan too. All of them clapping and cheering when I almost reached the finish line. That is the most relief moment ever and I kept on remind myself how warm my bed is if I stayed at home.

I got the medal; took some photo with ProMark Pacers and Simon too – he was already half way back home when Joey called him for our photo session and he came!

Moral of the story is don’t forget to warm up and down and most important is – DON’T REGISTER YOUR NAME ON SUNDAY RACE if you haven’t done enough exercise beforehand or you end up like me! How so? The result from my so-called healthy activity ends up with medical leave on Monday. Muscle pain and barely can walk… Ask Linda – my sister, she will mock my walk, happily for you.
